Please read all information prior to nominating for trials below
The 2025 School Sport Australia Cross Country Championship has been released. The championship venue will be on the Gold Coast from September 7 – September 10.
Please be aware, the School Sport Australia event will again be held separate to the Athletics Australia event.
WA Team Selection
In 2025, students will have ONE trial opportunity only.
Entry into the SSWA State Cross Country team is via the age specific trial event.
Please refer to the Selection Policy (tab at bottom of page) for selection details.
TRIAL 13-18s – Selection Race Thursday 29 May 2025
$12.00 per person
TRIAL 10-12s – Selection Race Saturday 14 June 2025
$10.00 per person

The total cost of the Championship is estimated at $1000 (this does not include any flights or accommodation), less fund raising.
Travel Model
The School Sport WA preferred travel model is for students to travel and accommodate with their parent/guardian. Flights have been booked for team officials and their flight information will be provided at the parent information meeting.
Any variation to this model will be communicated at the initial trial

Please note: the SSWA Primary Schools Cross Country Championship Event (held Wednesday 28 May 2025) is NOT a trial race for state team selection.Â
Students aged 10-12 years in 2025 and wanting to gain selection in the 2025 SSWA State Team MUST nominate and race in the SSWA State Team Specific Trial 10s-12s Event on Saturday June 7.
Students Aged 13-19 Years (Born 2012 and earlier)

- Secondary Schools Champion Schools Cross Country

This is the secondary schools championship event and will double as the state team selection race for students turning 13 years and older in 2025.
For Year 7 students born 2013, a 12 years race will be held but WILL NOT be a selection race the state team. ALL Y6 and Y7 students born in 2013 wishing to trial for the state team, must nominate and race at the:

2025 National Championships:

Once the final team has been selected (including reserves) a training schedule will be released.
Training sessions will be held weekly on Sunday mornings at 8am
Training will usually conclude approx 9.15am
Training will vary between the two venues (Alderbury Reserve and Kings Park)
Students will be selected according to their age as of December 31.
Age divisions are offered from 10 – 18+

For Year 6 and Year 7 students born 2013 who turn 12 this year, please read the ‘TRIAL’ tab (left) to ensure you understand the trial requirements for the 12 year old age group.
