SECONDARY CHAMPION SCHOOLS BASKETBALL

BACKGROUND

This competition is open to all Government and Non-Government Schools in WA.

The competition is known as the “School Sport WA Secondary Champion Schools Basketball Competition’.

The Secondary Basketball competition is divided into Basketball Leagues.  You will need to indicate which League you are in when you nominate.  League allocations are outlined in the below competition booklet.

The Junior Competition is day carnivals feeding through to finals.

The Senior Competition is a mix of round robin and day carnival competitions feeding into finals.

Grand Finals are held in two divisions All Schools and Champion Schools.

JUNIOR COMPETITION

Junior League competitions will be conducted as day-carnivals.

SENIOR COMPETITION

  Finals – Tuesday 16 June 2026 Senior All-Schools Finals – Bendat Stadium
 Grand Finals – Tuesday 23 June 2026 Senior All-Schools GF – Bendat Stadium

1-30pm – 4-30pm

The Schools with Specialist Basketball Programs Leagues will form the Senior Champion Schools competition.

Only schools with Specialist Basketball Programs will be eligible to play in these Leagues.

The structure of the Leagues will be:

• Round Robin North of the River and
• Round Robin South of the River competitions

Games will be played after school on Monday for girls and Tuesday for boys (or by negotiation between schools).

At the completion of the rounds, crossover finals between the top two schools in each League (NOR and SOR) with the winners of each crossover final progressing to the Champion Schools Grand Final.

*Please note all schools who advertise or run a specialist or elite basketball program will be included in the NOR and SOR Specialist Leagues.

Schools who advertise a Specialist Basketball Program WILL NOT be permitted to participate in the All-Schools day-carnivals.

Game Timing For Champion Schools Grand Finals
The timing of all Grand Final games will be 4 x 10 minute quarters; fully timed (the clock will stop on all whistles).

It is suggested that teams play this format throughout the finals, however, the lack of competent and trained bench officials may prevent this from occurring.

If games cannot be conducted under the above format, please see the statement on FIBA Basketball Rules below.

• FIBA Basketball rules apply – 2 x 20-minute halves, 5 personal fouls, shoot free-throws on 8th team foul
• All schools must have 1 competent referee and 1 competent score
• Please contact your opponent to organise a venue and time suitable to both parties.
• The home team must email the result of each game to the League Coordinator.

SENIOR COMPETITION DETAILS

Schools who do not have Specialist Basketball Programs advertised as part of their curriculum will participate in regional day-carnivals.

These All-Schools Leagues will be played as day carnivals, with the top team progressing to the All-Schools Day-Carnival Final.

Specialist schools may include a development team in the All Schools day carnivals to make up numbers. However, these teams will not accrue competition points on the day and will not progress to the All Schools Day Carnival Final.

The timing of all Grand Final games will be 4 x 10 minute quarters; fully timed (the clock will stop on all whistles) with a shot clock.

3×3 COMPETITION

The 3X3 competition in 2026 will continue to be for Year 7 and Year 10 students

Eligibility
Students must be in years 7 and 10 ONLY. No other year groups are permitted to play.

Grand Finals – Tuesday 23rd June between the Boys and Girls Senior Grand Finals. Approx 3.45pm. Arrive before 3.30pm please.

Format of Competition
Boys’ and Girls’ Year 7 and Year 10 Divisions
Pool format with finals to determine carnival champions.
10-minute games (or first team to score 21pts) with 5 minutes between games
Max 4 players per team – to be named prior to the event – team sheets handed in before competition starts, after rules overview

All-Stars  Games

Date:         Sunday 25 October, 2026
Venue:      Bendat Basketball Centre
Time:        Girls 9.00 am TBC   (SSWA v ACC v IGSSA) 
                  Boys 10.00am TBC   (SSWA v ACC) 

Eligibility:  Must attend a Department of Education school that competed in the Champion Schools Senior competition in 2026. 

Expressions of Interest – Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Team Manager will open at the beginning of term 2, 2026. EOI’s will be accepted from current Department of Education staff ONLY. Nominate HERE – [CLOSED]
